Schwartz, who graduated from the University of Michigan, honed his skills in the 1950s under the mentorship of Bob Goodall and Glenn “Red” Beach, both of whom had worked with the renowned architect Alden B. Dow. By 1958, Schwartz began taking on projects, including the Bergstein House. The house not only reflects Schwartz's architectural vision but also symbolizes the lifelong friendship between Schwartz and Bergstein, who had been neighbors since childhood. The Bergstein House features a blend of plaster, concrete, steel, and brick, characterized by long horizontal lines. A circular driveway leads to a minimalist entrance with sleek rails and steps.
